Scarlet macaw / Ara macao

Widely spread from southern Mexico to southern Brazil, this bird eats almost anything the forest or savanna might provide, such as palm nuts, fruits and seeds. Here it is eating seeds from the açoita cavalo tree (Luehea paniculata) which translates as “whip horse”.
